Will County Adopts 2040 Plan

Long Range Transportation Plan identifies multimodal priorities

     At the March meeting of the Will County Board, members voted to adopt the Long Range Transportation Plan known as Will Connects 2040. This plan will be a blueprint to transform the county’s transportation plan over the next 25 years.

Will County chooses new Director of Transportation

At the February meeting of the Will County Board, longtime employee Jeff Ronaldson was named Director of Transportation, replacing Bruce Gould who retired after 40 years of service to the county.

Ronaldson has spent his entire career with the Will County Division of Transportation, joining the county upon graduation from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in June 1997. Ronaldson worked directly under Gould for more than 19 years where he learned firsthand how to manage the county’s growing highway department. 

City, County agree to open Chicago Street

Negotiations between leaders further Joliet’s development

Officials from the Will County Executive, Will County Board and the City of Joliet have announced that after years of being closed between Washington and Jefferson streets, Chicago Street will open to the public as part of a larger property exchange between the county and city. The agreement will benefit Joliet’s downtown redevelopment plans, the county, and the general public.

          The 2017 Hero Helps Community Summit will shine a light on several counties that are implementing innovative strategies to battle the heroin epidemic and drive down the abuse of opioids in their communities.

           This year’s summit is slated for Friday, April 21, 2017 at the Edward Hospital Athletic and Event Center, 55 Phelps Drive in Romeoville.

 

Will County hires Director for Substance Use Initiatives to lead County’s Prescription Drug & Opioid Efforts

     With the approval of the Will County Board last week, the county has hired Dr. Kathleen Burke as Director for Substance Use Initiatives.  In this role, Burke will serve as project coordinator for the FY 17 Prescription Drug/Opioid overdose-related deaths grant that was awarded by the Illinois Department of Human Services and funded by the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA).

Pastor Jolinda Wade, the mother of Dwyane Wade of the Chicago Bulls, will visit Wilmington next week to discuss her past struggles with drug addiction during a forum focusing on the heroin epidemic that is exploding across the nation.
