     At today’s meeting of the Will County Board, County Executive Larry Walsh presented his 2017 budget.  This new budget proposal is balanced and will see a reduction in the levy rate from the FY 2016 budget.

     Will County Executive Larry Walsh, County Board members Ragan Freitag and Herb Brooks joined Will County Chief Judge Richard Schoenstedt, Circuit Clerk Pam McGuire and Joliet Mayor Bob O’Dekirk today to officially open the newly constructed parking lot on the site of the former Eagle Building, at 20 W. Washington in downtown Joliet. The new 21-space lot will increase parking around the county courthouse.

     Will County officials have confirmed a sixth rabid bat in the county. The bat was found in a residence on August 30 in the 700 block of Oakland Avenue.

     The Will County Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP) Collaborative is proud to announce the launch of “Rethink Your Drink”, an educational campaign to encourage residents to reduce the consumption of sugar-sweetened drinks.

     The Will County Community Health Center is now offering a special Teen Clinic from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. every Friday for county residents. The free and confidential services are especially designed for teen clients and will include family planning, birth control, and health education. The clinic is open to residents from 12 to 21 years of age.

Will County Executive Larry Walsh has his hearing screened – for a second time – by Hope Cathelyn, the county’s Chief Vision and Hearing Screening Technician during the organization’s 50^th anniversary celebration on Aug. 26.

 The Will County Health Department announced Thursday that a bird picked up in Naperville had West Nile Virus, making it the first confirmed case in an animal in the county in 2016.

The Will County Health Department’s vision and hearing program will celebrate 50 years of providing screenings to the community with an open house on Friday.

     Will County health officials said a fifth rabid bat has been reported. A bat was found Aug. 17 in a house in the 500 block of Bannett Street in Joliet. 

Moving Will County Projects Forward -- Will County Executive Larry Walsh (center) signed off on the issuance of $175 million in General Obligation, Alternate Revenue Source bonds for the county on August 18, 2016.  Proceeds from the sale of these bonds will be used to finance a new Public Safety Complex, a new Judicial Complex, a new Health department building, and a northern court satellite location.
