To clarify the CDC’s recent recommendation about COVID-19 booster shots, the Will County Health Department is sharing important information about these additional vaccines.

While nearly half the population of Will County is fully vaccinated, local officials are cautioning residents to continue COVID-19 precautions as the number of Delta variant cases are increasing. These precautions include frequent hand washing, social distancing and wearing a mask in public places for those who are unvaccinated.

The Will County Health Department (WCHD) is asking for patience from the senior community and their families during the still very young “Vaccine Stage” of the “Covid-19 Pandemic Response.”
Shortly before Christmas, WCHD placed a survey on its website, allowing all Will County residents who intend to take the vaccine to register their interest, and offer important information concerning age range, pre-existing health conditions, occupation, and location of their residence.

With the COVID-19 vaccine being rolled out to more sectors of the population on almost a weekly basis, the Will County Health Department has set up an online registration portal and encourages residents to logon, take the survey, and register for future vaccine clinics.

Today, the county received more than 4,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, recently authorized for distribution by the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The State of Illinois is following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) which is breaking up the vaccination process into four phases, focusing on “critical populations” first.
