These meetings will focus on solutions regarding the five pillars of civil legal aid, economic development, re-entry, violence prevention, and youth development. “These meetings offer an excellent opportunity for residents throughout the Greater Joliet Area to offer perspective and ideas on addressing ongoing needs within our neighborhoods,” said Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant “Community input is a critical component of this process to ensure that we can identify funding opportunities in the five R3 pillars that focus on long-term solutions.”The statewide R3 program was created as a key equity element of the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act signed into law in 2019, which diverts 25% of cannabis sales tax revenue to support communities impacted by economic disinvestment. The ongoing Collaborative Assessment and Planning Process will identify community needs that may be addressed in future grant opportunities. The R3 meetings will help identify existing resources in a community, measure the gaps and opportunities within existing programs, foster connections among organizations to better address these needs, and develop a strategic plan to address the R3 priorities. “This process has been a great partnership between Will County, the City of Joliet and local organizations,” said City of Joliet Economic Development Director Derek Conley. “Community input and engagement is extremely important when planning for the future of our neighborhoods. We look forward to hearing from the community at the upcoming R3 neighborhood meetings.”Meetings will be held from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, October 26 and Thursday, October 28 at the Nowell Park Recreation Center, 199 Mills Road in Joliet. Refreshments will be served, and community organizations will be present to share information about services. Additional meeting dates and locations will be announced.
