As residents are preparing to celebrate the holidays with family and friends this year, the Will County Land Use Department’s Reuse Recovery and Energy Division would like to encourage eco-friendly practices.

Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant announced today that Will County residents and landlords will have another opportunity to apply for up to $25,000 in rental assistance through the Illinois Rental Payment Program (ILRPP) beginning Monday, December 6, 2021 through January 9, 2022.

Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant named 11 people to boards and commissions in November. The appointments were approved by the County Board at its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, Nov. 18.

Traditionally, the day after Thanksgiving is a good time to bring out Christmas decorations and the time people discover non-working string lights. Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant reminds residents to dispose of these lights in an environmentally friendly way.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) is following the Food and Drug Administration’s decision to open COVID-19 booster vaccinations to all and recommending anyone 18 years and older get a COVID-19 vaccine booster dose six months after receiving their second Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, or two months after receiving the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant joined County Board leadership in highlighting accomplishments in the Fiscal Year 2022 Annual Budget, which invests in key priorities while maintaining balanced spending. The $793 million package, which was passed unanimously today by the County Board, increases funding for public safety agencies, the Children’s Advocacy Center, and the Will-Ride transportation program.

Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant is reminding residents in need of rental, mortgage, or utility payments that financial assistance is still available for those impacted by economic hardships related to the COVID-19 pandemic. This follows an announcement by the Illinois Housing Development Authority of a second application period for Illinois Rental Payment Program (ILRPP) funds opening on December 6th.

The Will County Health Department reminds residents to continue to observe COVID-19 safety protocols at upcoming family gatherings. Because of the availability of the vaccine and the growing number of people who are receiving the vaccine, many families are expected to resume traditional celebrations.

Will County and Lewis University will host the sixth annual “Catapult a Pumpkin” event from 9:00 a.m. until noon, Saturday, Nov. 6 in the “W” parking lot South of the main entrance of Lewis University in Romeoville. The event offers residents an opportunity to safely dispose of pumpkins, electronics, and documents.

The Workforce Center of Will County is partnering with the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce and Joliet Township High School to host a Career Fair for Individuals with Disabilities from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2nd at the Joliet Township High School Administration Building, 300 Caterpillar Drive in Joliet. Representatives from several local businesses resource organizations will be participating.
