As the opioid epidemic continues to affect the entire nation, Will County is working to expand its harm reduction efforts by providing naloxone training to any organization or individual. Naloxone is a powerful antidote that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

As the opioid crisis continues to affect communities across the nation, U.S. Congressman Adam Kinzinger hosted a roundtable discussion with local and county officials to learn about local efforts and potential solutions on this issue.

Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) Secretary James Dimas and Director Danielle Kirby are pleased to announce a new name for the Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (DASA).

The 2018 Hero Helps Community Summit, slated for Friday, May 11 at the Edward Hospital Athletic and Event Center in Romeoville, will feature Maria Bruni, assistant secretary of programs for the Illinois Department of Human Services, and Dr. Nirav Shah, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, both of whom will share the Governor’s new Task Force Recommendations.

The United States Surgeon General last Thursday issued a statement urging more Americans to carry naloxone, a lifesaving medication that can reverse the effects of an overdose.

In a press release, Surgeon General Jerome M. Adams acknowledged the dramatic increase of opioid overdose and the record number of people affected with substance use disorder, estimated at 2.1 million nationwide.

“Send money.”

That was one of the messages given to Lt. Gov. Evelyn Sanguinetti at a Friday round-table discussion in Joliet on the opioid crisis.
