Three more named winners in Earth Day Passport event

There is still time to enter and win prizes in final two rounds

WILL COUNTY -- Three more winners have been named by the Will County Land Use Department’s Resource Recovery and Energy Division in the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day Passport event.

Brigette Garay of Joliet won a $50 gift card to Heroes West in Joliet. Dawn Hensen-Leonard of Lockport won $25 gift cards to Peter Rubi of Plainfield and Nancy’s Pizza, which has multiple locations. Lisa Kazmi of Romeoville won a $20 gift certificate to Milette’s Cakes of Plainfield, a $25 gift card to Jitters in Joliet and several sustainability items from the Land Use Department.

Each raffle prize is worth at least $50 in honor of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.  Additional drawings will be held Aug. 8 and Sept. 15, every 50 days from the start of the program.

The education- and activity-based event is intended to encourage everyone to find ways to help the environment.

Will County Executive Denise Winfrey reminds those who haven’t yet joined the fun that they still can.

“Completion of each activity earns a point. After earning 15 points, participants are entered into the raffle drawings. You earn your first point just by signing up at www.willcountyearthday.com.”

Prizes have been donated by a variety of area businesses and non-profits. Top prize is a refurbished 5th generation iPad valued at $400 from A-Team Recyclers, which will be awarded in September as part of the final round of prizes.

The Forest Preserve of Will County, the Health Department and the South Metropolitan Higher Education Consortium have joined forces with the county group to offer the Earth Day adventure filled with at least 50 ways to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

For information about other events sponsored by the Resource Recovery and Energy Division, visit www.willcountygreen.com.

The Land Use Department is under the County Executive’s office and is led by Director David Dubois.
