I am honored to serve as your Will County Executive. As a lifelong resident of this great county, I have witnessed many changes as we have evolved from an ag-community to a major hub in the global distribution market.  I am dedicated to building upon this status but I am equally dedicated to maintaining the quality of life for the nearly 700,000 residents and thousands of businesses and organizations that call Will County home.

Please explore our website which is filled with important information about services and departments within the County Executive office as well as connections to other county officials’ websites.

WILL COUNTY RECEIVED $40.5 MILLION IN RENTAL ASSISTANCE APPLICATIONS FROM LANDLORDS AND TENANTS

RENTAL ASSISTANCE FUNDING STILL AVAILABLE TO AVOID EVICTION

Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant announced today that 3,687 completed applications, totaling $40,531,273 in rental assistance, have been received through the Illinois Rental Payment Program (ILRPP) to help residents and landlords who have been financially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The overwhelming response for rental assistance shows how devastating the impact of COVID-19 has been on Will County residents and landlords,” said Bertino-Tarrant. “As the eviction moratorium expires, and the Delta Variant is on the rise, we remain dedicated to helping those affected by offering additional assistance through Will County.”

The ILRPP is being administered by the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) on behalf of Will County and the application process is now closed. To date, $11,031,942 has been disbursed to landlords in Will County.

IHDA is continuing to review applications as quickly as possible and is prioritizing requests for tenants who are unemployed and those with very-low household incomes. Tenants and landlords are encouraged to check their emails because there are many completed applications that need additional information before they can be approved.

If a Will County resident missed applying for assistance through the ILRPP, Will County is offering additional support through COMEBACK Grants. Information about these programs can be found by visiting www.willcountyillinois.org. Residents interested in housing stabilization grants can apply by contacting one of the following local agencies who will work with them to determine eligibility and help apply for assistance:

• Community Services Council, in Joliet or Bolingbrook, www.thecsc.org or (815) 886-5000.
• Spanish Community Center in Joliet: www.spanishcenter.org or (815) 727-3683
• Will County Center for Community Concerns in Joliet: www.wcccc.net or (815) 722-0722
• Catholic Charities, Diocese of Joliet www.catholiccharitiesjoliet.org (815) 774-4663

Residents already approved for an ILRPP may not be eligible for additional assistance.

Landlords and tenants can check the status of their application at www.ILRPP.IHDA.org.

Applicants are eligible for up to 15 months of assistance. The grant can cover the past due rent from the previous 12 months and future rental assistance for the next three months, if deemed necessary. The maximum grant amount is $25,000. Payments are made directly to the landlord.

“The goal of this program is to help as many people as possible,” said Bertino-Tarrant. “It can be the lifeline to keeping families in homes and helping them get back on their feet.”
